RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute on behalf of the Health Services Director, a purchase order with ICU Medical Sales, Inc. in the amount of $738,980 for infusion pumps, accessories, and implementation services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) for the period from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2029.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this action will result in expenditures of up to $738,980 over a five-year period and will be funded by the Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.

 

BACKGROUND:

Infusion pumps play a critical role in hospitals by precisely administering fluids, medications, and nutrients to patients, ensuring accurate dosages and timely delivery. Their reliability not only enhances patient safety and comfort but also streamlines medical procedures, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on providing optimal care. CCRMC is having difficulty ensuring the optimal level of care with the current infusion pumps as they are past their useful life, subject to breakdowns and repairing them is no longer feasible.

 

ICU Medical Sales, Inc. has the series of infusion pumps required to ensure all infusion patient needs are met and with the functionality essential for the providers and nursing staff. Their Plum Duo, Medfusion and CADD-Solis infusion pumps ensure precise, accurate dosing for standard infusion needs, for those more vulnerable needing smaller fluid volumes and those with pain management therapy in both the acute and outpatient settings, respectively. ICU Medical Sales, Inc. is an awarded supplier for infusion pumps on the Vizient Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contract portfolio.

 

On June 24, 2024 the Board of Supervisors approved agenda item C.158 to execute Contract #76-870 with ICU Medical Sales, Inc., to provide an infusion pump system, software and services for Contra Costa Health (CCH) patient care for the period from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2029. Under this contract the parties will execute a Master Customer Contract which governs the county’s procurement of an infusion pump system including disposables, infusion pumps, software, accessories, and implementation services.

 

 

 

 

Approval of this request will allow CCRMC to purchase the ICU Medical Sales, Inc. range of infusion pumps necessary to meet patient needs for the coming years. The County is a member of Vizient Supply, LLC group purchasing organization that provides the County with supplier agreement access. Vizient is party to a contract with ICU Medical Sales, Inc. for infusion pump products and supplies.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, CCRMC will not be able to provide critical intravenous fluid therapy to CCRMC inpatient and outpatient oncology patients.
