ADOPT Resolution recognizing Mariella Cajina as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Volunteerism.

Mariella Cajina is a senior at Carondelet High School in Concord CA.

IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Mariella Cajina as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Volunteerism.                     

 

WHEREAS, Mariella Cajina is a senior at Carondelet High School and has been an honor student every year while working two jobs, yet she still finds the time to volunteer in her community; and

 

WHEREAS, she participates in Ven a Ver Fruits of Labor, an immersion program in the farm working community, where she learned about the issues farmworkers face and explored themes such as care for creation, migration, and sustainable farming; and

 

WHEREAS, Mariella is a dedicated volunteer with over 480 hours of community service; and

 

WHEREAS, she has volunteered with many organizations including the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano, Bay Area Crisis Nursery and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; and

 

WHEREAS, Mariella has volunteered with Girls Garage, which is a nonprofit design and construction organization for girls and gender-expansive youth, and Habitat for Humanity, where she has worked on Esperanza Place, which will provide stable, affordable housing in Walnut Creek; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to volunteering in the community, Mariella is an active member of her school community, where she plays Varsity Tennis, and participates in school clubs, including being a Peer Counselor; and 

 

WHEREAS, having experienced housing insecurity, this has driven Mariella to pursue a career in engineering or architecture and she wants to use her skills to create a better future for others, and to inspire other young people to achieve their dreams.

 

 

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors recognizes Mariella Cajina as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Volunteerism, and for exemplifying the values of service, integrity, kindness, activism, and leadership that César Chávez embodied through his life.
