IN THE MATTER OF IN Recognizing Chief Jamie Knox upon his retirement as Chief of Police for the City of Walnut Creek and honoring him for his distinguished career and dedicated service to the Walnut Creek Police Department and the community.

 

 

WHEREAS, Chief Jamie Knox has served as Chief of Police for the Walnut Creek Police Department since 2021, concluding a distinguished law enforcement career spanning more than 30 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Knox began his law enforcement career in 1996 with the Rocklin Police Department, later serving as Captain with the Novato Police Department in 2015 and the San Leandro Police Department in 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Chief Knox has demonstrated a commitment to public safety, professionalism, and integrity, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he has served; and

 

WHEREAS, under his leadership, Walnut Creek experienced historically low crime rates and a significant expansion of the Police Department, including the addition of five full-time officers and a Crime Prevention Specialist; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Knox launched an innovative recruitment and branding campaign that successfully attracted top law enforcement talent, resulting in the hiring of 68 new employees between 2022 and 2025; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Knox made the fight against organized retail theft a top departmental priority, implementing coordinated enforcement operations that led to multiple arrests and the recovery of thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise, while collaborating with regional and state partners to dismantle large-scale theft rings; and

 

WHEREAS, he led the department’s participation in the 30x30 Initiative, demonstrating a strong commitment to increasing the representation and advancement of women in policing and promoting inclusive leadership development; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Knox implemented cutting-edge technology, including the Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) System, enhanced drone capabilities, and introduced a bomb-detection K9 to strengthen public safety and operational efficiency; and

 

WHEREAS, he revitalized the Police Cadet Program, providing mentorship and training opportunities for youth interested in law enforcement careers, and expanded the Chief’s Community Advisory Board to strengthen trust and collaboration between the department and the community; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Knox championed officer wellness and accountability by introducing the ABLE (Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement) program and establishing a Professional Standards and Training Unit to elevate officer development and ethical policing; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Knox’s tenure has been marked by innovation, transparency, and dedication to both his officers and the community, leaving a legacy of excellence in public service.

 

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby honors Chief Jamie Knox for his service to the City of Walnut Creek upon his retirement
