APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Chief Probation Officer, or designee, to execute a contract with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, in an amount not to exceed $71,810 for a custodial program at Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp, for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028 (100% State).
FISCAL IMPACT:
This is 100% funded by State Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Realignment funds.
BACKGROUND:
The Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp (PGYCC) in Amador County offers a custodial program for rehabilitation and re-entry services through career training, therapy and teamwork. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), in partnership with PGYCC, teaches the youth about wildland firefighting. Youth will work in state and county parks performing stream clearance, wildland fire prevention tasks, and restoration work. During fire season, youth will assist with wildland fire suppression throughout the state of California. The goal of the program is to provide the youth with employable skills and to develop a strong emphasis on hard work. The Probation Department is seeking renewal of this contract to continue providing this opportunity to eligible youth transitioning back into the community.
This Board request is to correct the prior action to reflect the correct contract limit, which includes an additional day for FY 27/28 leap year.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If unapproved, youth transitioning back into the community will not be able to participate in this program.
