In the matter of recognizing Cesia Jesus Gonzalez as the 2026 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Perseverance
WHEREAS, Cesia Jesus Gonzalez, a Contra Costa County foster youth and dedicated student, has demonstrated outstanding leadership, perseverance, and commitment to civic engagement through her efforts to support her peers and strengthen her community; and
WHEREAS, Cesia has taken initiative at her high school by founding and leading a club for foster youth and their allies, creating a supportive space where students can connect, share experiences, and access peer encouragement and resources; and
WHEREAS, through this club, Cesia has worked to empower foster youth by fostering understanding, promoting awareness, and ensuring that students in foster care feel supported and represented within their school community; and
WHEREAS, beyond her school campus, Cesia has been actively involved with the Oakland Youth Commission, where youth leaders collaborate to advise the mayor and city officials on policies and issues that affect young people throughout Oakland; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Oakland Youth Commission, Cesia has participated in community initiatives and volunteered at events, demonstrating her commitment to public service and youth advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Cesia has shown remarkable perseverance and resilience, overcoming the challenges associated with entering foster care at a young age while continuing to thrive academically and maintaining a grade point average above 3.5; and
WHEREAS, Cesia’s academic curiosity and passion for storytelling have earned her acceptance into the Oaklandside Student Reporting Fellowship, a program designed to mentor students who are eager to learn the fundamentals of journalism and engage thoughtfully with their communities; and
WHEREAS, Cesia aspires to continue her education at a university after graduating from high school, further developing her leadership skills and commitment to advocacy and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, Cesia’s determination, compassion, and dedication to uplifting others serve as an inspiration to her peers and reflect the power of youth leadership in shaping stronger communities; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby recognize Cesia Jesus Gonzalez as a 2026 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Perserverance, and commend her for exemplifying the enduring values of service, integrity, kindness, activism, and leadership inspired by the Farmworkers Rights Movement and the many individuals who have dedicated their lives to advancing dignity, equity, and justice for others.
