Report Title: Add One (1) Biomedical Equipment Technician II Position in the Contra Costa Health Department

RECOMMENDATIONS:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 26198 to add one (1) Biomedical Equipment Technician II (VFVD) position at salary plan and grade TC5-1588 ($7,197 - $7,935) in the Contra Costa Health Department. (Represented)
FISCAL IMPACT:
This will have an annual cost increase of $152,923 with $35,878 in pensions included (Salary & Benefits) and cost savings of $296,400 from the Mulitmedical Systems Contract No. 76693 (Services & Supplies). This position will be fully funded by 100% Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (Dept 0540/Org 6536)
BACKGROUND:
Over the last few years, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the need for more medical equipment and to provide maintenance which increased the workload for the Biomedical Equipment unit. The unit had a contract with Multimedical Systems (contract # 76693) which initially started on October 1, 2020, was renewed on May 1, 2022, then expired on April 30, 2023, which provided one contractor. To provide equitable staffing and since the contract expired (cost savings), the unit needs to add one PFT Biomedical Equipment Technician II position to efficiently provide repair services to backlogged requests and to find a more permanent solution to handle the increased workload.
This position will be responsible for completing requests for emergency repair work, consulting with medical and professional staff to ensure equipment functions properly, conducting safety and operational inspection of medical equipment, inspecting patient care facilities and technical equipment areas to ensure patient and staff safety for electrical and mechanical hazards, and conducting preventative maintenance for both scheduled and emergency repairs of analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, it could potentially compromise the care of patients and the safety of staff members using the medical equipment.
