This resolution recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club.

IN THE MATTER OF Recognizing the Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club on their 50th Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The relationship between a community and its residents is a vital and independent one that derives its strength from the quantity and quality of civic involvement and the public spirit generated by individuals, community groups and governing bodies; and
WHEREAS, The Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club is celebrating its Fiftieth Anniversary and it is therefore appropriate at this time to highlight its many achievements and to underscore the positive impact that it has made within Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, The Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club was chartered on May 16, 1974 and since that time has been a leading organization in the County and a dynamic force striving to improve the quality of life locally and in the region it serves; and
WHEREAS, During its 50 years, the Club has been one of the most active service clubs in Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, The many projects in which the Club has been active include: Distributing Food and Providing Student Backpacks at the Monument Crisis Center; Playground and Irrigation Systems Construction at the local public schools; Building a rodent barrier around John Muir Land Trust’s Family Harvest Farm and Harvesting Moraga’s Pear Orchards for the Food Bank. The Club also annually awards scholarships to outstanding graduates at the Acalanes, Campolindo and Miramonte High Schools and to students in the High Potential Program at Saint Mary’s College of California; and
WHEREAS, The Club provides significant financial donations to local charitable organizations including: Monument Crisis Center; Food Bank of Contra Costa/Solano; Meals on Wheels; White Pony Express; Winter Nights; Xenophon Therapeutic Riding; the Moraga Education Foundation and the Moraga Community Foundation. The Club’s members individually and collectively also participate directly in the operations of those and many other charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, The contributions that the Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club has made within Contra Costa County are invaluable and reflect an organization that is devoted to the highest ideals of community service
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY does hereby commend The Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club on the celebration of its Fiftieth Anniversary and on the vital role that it has played in improving the quality of life in Contra Costa County and that the Club is extended best wishes for continued success in the future.
