IN THE MATTER OF Recognizing Kathy Chiverton as the 2026 Contra Costa County

District 2 Honoree for the Inaugural Women’s Day Ceremony 

 

WHEREAS, on March 17, 2026, Contra Costa County proudly celebrates its Inaugural Women’s Day Ceremony, recognizing women whose leadership, service, and dedication have made a lasting impact in their communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy Chiverton has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to public service and community well-being throughout her distinguished career; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy has served on the Measure X Community Advisory Body (CAB) since its inception, providing strong leadership, organizational structure, and great wisdom and insight as these tax dollars have been allocated throughout Contra Costa County; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy started the San Ramon Valley Mental Health Advisory Coalition and has organized and led quarterly forums where those with an interest in Mental Health services gather to learn from each other and from speakers about issues affecting San Ramon, Danville and Alamo; and

WHEREAS, Kathy has demonstrated exceptional leadership through her involvement in Leadership San Ramon Valley, where she has supported and cultivated community leaders, strengthened civic engagement, and fostered collaboration among local businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies to enhance the quality of life throughout the San Ramon Valley; and

WHEREAS, Kathy has been an active and dedicated supporter of the San Ramon Valley Diversity Coalition, advancing equity, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding by helping to create meaningful dialogue, educational opportunities, and community partnerships that celebrate diversity and promote unity throughout Contra Costa County; and

WHEREAS, Kathy played an important role in helping coalesce the community around the need for a Family Justice Center in South County; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy previously served as Executive Director of the Discovery Counseling Center, where she came in at a pivotal time and helped strengthen the organization and where she  led efforts to expand access to mental health services and strengthen support systems for youth and families; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy previously served as Chief of Staff to two Contra Costa County Supervisors, providing thoughtful leadership, strategic guidance, and steadfast service to the residents of Contra Costa County; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy also served as Executive Director of the San Ramon Valley YMCA, where she championed programs that enhanced youth development, healthy living, and community engagement; and

 

WHEREAS, her volunteerism further reflects her deep commitment to the community, including co-chairing successful school bond measures, serving on local education foundations, participating in Rotary, and collaborating with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District to address youth development and school safety initiatives; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy’s leadership has strengthened partnerships between public agencies, nonprofit organizations, schools, and community members, creating meaningful and lasting impact across District 2 and beyond; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy, along with her husband, Ed have long been dedicated advocates for education and community service, raising three children who have benefitted from and contributed to the strong educational environment of the San Ramon Valley.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby recognizes and honors 

 

Kathy Chiverton

 

as the Contra Costa County District 2 Honoree for the Inaugural Women’s Day Ceremony on March 17, 2026, and commends her for her outstanding leadership, unwavering dedication, and lasting contributions to the residents of Contra Costa County.
