IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Peter upon his retirement from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District
WHEREAS, Chief Jeff Peter will retire from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District on October 12, 2026, concluding a distinguished career dedicated to emergency response, public safety, and service to the communities throughout California and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter joined Contra Costa Fire on February 8, 2021, following a 30-year career with the Chula Vista Fire Department, where he served nineteen years as a Chief Officer; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Chief Peter has brought extensive experience in emergency operations, administration, communications, and capital projects; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter provided leadership and oversight for the design and construction of the Contra Costa Regional Fire Communications Center, a state-of-the-art emergency communications facility that serves as a critical link between the public and emergency responders throughout Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Chief Peter, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District’s Regional Fire Communications Center achieved reaccreditation as an Accredited Center of Excellence by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch, reflecting the center’s commitment to quality, professionalism, and excellence in emergency dispatching; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter provided leadership in strengthening the Communications Division and supporting its functions, including the establishment and expansion of positions designed to enhance emergency dispatch, telecommunications, and information systems, helping build the organizational capacity necessary to sustain the District’s growing communications needs; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter’s leadership in the development of the Regional Fire Communications Center has created a lasting contribution to the Fire District and the broader emergency response system, providing the infrastructure and capabilities necessary to support the public and emergency responders during critical moments; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter has continued his commitment to public service beyond the boundaries of Contra Costa County Fire Protection District through his work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), on a FEMA National Urban Search and Rescue Incident Support Team, deploying multiple times across the country in response to hurricanes, wildfires, floods, building collapses, and other disasters; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter’s career has been marked by a willingness to take on complex challenges, lead large-scale projects, and apply his experience and expertise wherever they could best serve the mission of protecting lives, property, and the environment; and
WHEREAS, Chief Peter’s more than three decades of service as a fire service leader have left a meaningful and lasting impact on the organizations and communities he has served; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District recognizes Chief Jeff Peter for his dedication to the fire service, his leadership in strengthening emergency communications, his service to communities affected by disasters throughout the nation, and the legacy of professionalism and commitment he leaves with the District; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Board of Directors recognizes and thanks Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Peter for his distinguished career and dedicated service to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the communities he served, and extends its sincere appreciation and best wishes upon his retirement.
