ADOPT resolution honoring Matthew Rinn, Pleasant Hill City Council Member, for the time he served as a Councilmember for the City of Pleasant Hill.

IN THE MATTER OF honoring Matthew Rinn, Pleasant Hill City Council Member, for the time he served as a Councilmember for the City of Pleasant Hill.

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Matthew Rinn was elected to Pleasant Hill City Council in 2016, bringing with him a deep commitment to public service, and community engagement; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn served as Mayor in 2020 and 2024; and

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mr. Rinn exhibited unwavering dedication to the community, working collaboratively with fellow councilmembers, city staff, and local stakeholders to address the needs of the city and ensure a prosperous future for all who call Pleasant Hill home; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn’s leadership abilities were especially evident when he served as Mayor of Pleasant Hill in 2020 and again in 2024, where he demonstrated remarkable resilience, resourcefulness, and empathy in navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor, Mr. Rinn played a pivotal role in leading the City of Pleasant Hill’s response to the pandemic, advocating for public health measures, supporting the local business community, and prioritizing the well-being of residents during an unprecedented crisis; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn’s civic involvement began well before his service on the City Council, as he was first appointed to the Contra Costa Community College District Governing Board in 2013, where he has contributed significantly to the advancement of education and student success in the region; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn served as the President of the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill during the 2014-2015 term, exemplifying leadership, service above self, and dedication to the mission of community service; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn further enriched the city’s community outreach efforts by serving as the Education Commissioner for the City of Pleasant Hill from August 2013 to December 2016, ensuring that the voices of parents, students, and educators were heard and incorporated into city decisions affecting the educational landscape; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn was honored as the City’s Citizen of the Year in 2015, an award that celebrates individuals who go above and beyond in making a positive impact on the community; and

 

WHEREAS, as a local business owner, Mr. Rinn opened his Insurance Agency in Pleasant Hill in 2008, offering invaluable services to the community and contributing to the city's diverse business ecosystem; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2011, Mr. Rinn was also named Pleasant Hill’s Business Person of the Year, acknowledging his outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to the city’s economic vitality, and his ongoing efforts to foster a thriving business environment; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn coaches and referees soccer in the local fields; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Rinn is a dedicated family man who resides in Pleasant Hill with his wife and two daughters, and is passionate about spending time with his family while remaining deeply engaged in both his professional and civic responsibilities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors recognizes and honors Mr. Matthew Rinn for his exceptional service as a Councilmember for the City of Pleasant Hill, his outstanding leadership, and his unwavering commitment to the betterment of the community.
