BACKGROUND:
TRAC was formed with the mission to complete the San Francisco Bay Trail in Richmond, assuring that it is linked to public parks and population centers and maintained in perpetuity and to promote use and enjoyment of the Bay Trail by all who live and work in Richmond and as a visitor attraction to showcase Richmond’s shoreline

IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Trails for Richmond Action Committee (TRAC)’s 25th Anniversary and its work in expanding the Bay Trail in Richmond
Whereas, in July 1999, TRAC was formed with the mission to complete the San Francisco Bay Trail in Richmond, assuring that it is linked to public parks and population centers and maintained in perpetuity and to promote use and enjoyment of the Bay Trail by all who live and work in Richmond and as a visitor attraction to showcase Richmond’s shoreline;
Whereas, TRAC partnered with the City of Richmond, Contra Costa County, East Bay Regional Park District and many other government agencies to complete the Bay Trail in Richmond;
Whereas, TRAC prepared grant applications bringing over $12 million to the City of Richmond for planning, designing and building new sections of the Bay Trail;
Whereas, agreements were obtained from the private sector to build over five miles of Bay Trail and contribute over $400,000 toward Bay Trail projects;
Whereas, due to TRAC’s strong advocacy and efforts, the Bay Trail completed in Richmond tripled from 12 miles in 1999 to 36 miles today, and Richmond has more Bay Trail completed than any other city in the San Francisco Bay Area;
Whereas, TRAC prepared over 50 interpretive and wayfinding signs installed along the Bay Trail, and funded and designed three trail guides which are available along the Bay trail; and
Whereas, TRAC remains committed to completing the Bay Trail in Richmond and continues its strong advocacy efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby recognize and honor the 25th anniversary of TRAC and its vital work in expanding the Bay Trail in Richmond, California.
