IN THE MATTER OF Honoring the Rainbow Community Center on its 30th Anniversary
WHEREAS, since its founding in 1995, the Rainbow Community Center has served as a vital resource for LGBTQIA+2Spirit individuals and families throughout Contra Costa County, providing compassionate, inclusive, and life-affirming support; and
WHEREAS, over the past 30 years, the Rainbow Community Center has grown from a grassroots initiative into a comprehensive and trusted organization offering essential services, including mental health counseling, HIV prevention, youth and elder programs, and community support groups; and
WHEREAS, the Rainbow Community Center is an essential nonprofit in Contra Costa County that builds community, equity, and well-being among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual or Agender, and Two-Spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) people and their allies; and
WHEREAS, the Rainbow Community Center provides a wide array of services to the LGBTQIA+ community, including clinical and peer support groups, outpatient mental health services, a food pantry, a transitional housing program for homeless youth, and support for LGBTQIA+ seniors; and
WHEREAS, the Rainbow Community Center has positively impacted thousands of lives, advancing health equity, inclusion, and social justice for historically marginalized communities across the County; and
WHEREAS, the Rainbow Community Center has built strong and enduring partnerships with schools, local governments, public agencies, nonprofits, and businesses to strengthen community connections and foster environments where all residents can thrive; and
WHEREAS, as the Rainbow Community Center celebrates this significant milestone, it continues to look ahead with a deep commitment to creating safe, affirming, and sustainable spaces for future generations of Contra Costa County residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does hereby recognize and commend the Rainbow Community Center on the occasion of its 30th Anniversary for its decades of outstanding service, advocacy, and leadership in our community, and extends sincere appreciation for its unwavering dedication to building a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate county for all.
