RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Contract #76-710-6 with ITW Food Equipment Group LLC, doing business as Hobart Service, a limited liability company, in an amount not to exceed $24,000 to provide maintenance and repair services for kitchen equipment in the cafeteria at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) for the period of June 4, 2026 through June 3, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this Contract will result in contractual service expenditures of up to $24,000 and funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.
BACKGROUND:
CCRMC has been contracting with ITW Food Equipment Group LLC since June 4, 2020. CCRMC has an ongoing obligation to maintain operational kitchen equipment to support its Nutrition Services function, which is subject to the regulatory requirements of Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations which requires the provision of food in the quality and quantity necessary to meet patient needs in accordance with physicians' orders and applicable dietary standards. The cafeteria at CCRMC serves patients, staff, and visitors, and the availability of properly functioning commercial kitchen equipment is essential to uninterrupted food service operations.
CCRMC's cafeteria relies on commercial kitchen equipment that requires regular preventive maintenance, inspections, and as-needed repair services to remain operational and compliant with applicable health and safety standards. ITW Food Equipment Group LLC is a recognized provider of such services and has demonstrated the capacity to perform repair, maintenance, and inspections on commercial kitchen equipment in institutional settings comparable to CCRMC.
This contract is entered into under and subject to the following legal authorities: California Government Code §§ 26227 and 31000. Health Services Personnel approved this contract to ensure no conflicts with labor relations. CCRMC's Quality Management, Utilization Management, and Contract Monitor staff will meet on a regular basis to ensure monitoring and performance measures in the contract are upheld, consistent with standard CCRMC contract oversight practices.
This contract includes a limitation of liability provision which limits the contractor's liability to three times the value of goods or services furnished under this agreement. Approval of Contract #76-710-6 will allow the Contractor to continue providing maintenance and repair services for cafeteria equipment at CCRMC through June 3, 2027.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, CCRMC will not have a formal agreement in place to ensure that commercial kitchen equipment in the cafeteria is properly maintained and repaired.
