In the matter of recognizing Morriah Crose as the 2026 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Leadership & Civic Engagement

WHEREAS, Morriah Crose, a junior at Pittsburg High School, has demonstrated exceptional leadership, advocacy, and dedication to civic engagement through her service to her school, city, and peers; and

WHEREAS, Morriah has served as a Commissioner on the City of Pittsburg’s Youth Advisory Commission, where she has provided valuable youth voice and perspective to the Pittsburg City Council while representing the interests and concerns of young people in her community; and

WHEREAS, Morriah has actively participated in the City of Pittsburg’s Youth & Government program, where she has distinguished herself as a natural leader who supports and uplifts her peers while participating in a state-level government simulation designed to foster civic awareness and leadership skills; and

WHEREAS, Morriah made history for the City of Pittsburg by becoming the first participant from the city to receive a scholarship to attend the Youth & Government program, helping to open doors for future youth participants; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her leadership and dedication, Morriah was elected to serve on the program’s Supreme Court during the 2026 Youth & Government conference, demonstrating the trust and respect she has earned from her peers; and

WHEREAS, Morriah has shown remarkable commitment to advocacy through her work supporting youth-focused legislation, including a 2025 proposal to increase protections for students facing a 5150 mental health hold, raising awareness and mobilizing support among conference participants; and

WHEREAS, during that effort Morriah distributed more than 1,000 green and black ribbons representing social justice and mental health awareness, inspiring widespread participation among students, volunteers, and leaders throughout the conference; and

WHEREAS, Morriah’s dedication to mental health advocacy led to her being recognized and hired by NAMI Contra Costa as a Youth Advocate at Pittsburg High School after sharing her passion and leadership with community partners; and

WHEREAS, Morriah continued her advocacy in 2026 by supporting legislation focused on incorporating “Know Your Rights” and Immigration Law education into core curriculum classes, and despite the bill not advancing, she demonstrated perseverance by continuing to seek support from state legislators to bring the proposal forward; and

WHEREAS, Morriah’s leadership, resilience, and commitment to civic participation exemplify the values of service, justice, and community empowerment; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby recognize Morriah Crose as the 2026 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Leadership & Civic Engagement, and commend her for exemplifying the enduring values of service, integrity, kindness, activism, and leadership inspired by the Farmworkers Rights Movement and the many individuals who have dedicated their lives to advancing dignity, equity, and justice for others.
