THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
and for Special Districts, Agencies and Authorities Governed by the Board
body
IN THE MATTER OF a Resolution recognizing the 90th Anniversary of the Contra Costa Water District.
WHEREAS, the mission of Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) is to strategically provide a reliable supply of high-quality water at the lowest cost possible, in an environmentally responsible manner; and
WHEREAS, CCWD was incorporated on May 9, 1936, to bring a reliable supply of fresh water to Central and Eastern Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, The Contra Costa Canal, completed in 1948 by the U.S Bureau of Reclamation, enabled the delivery of water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to communities and agricultural areas across Contra Costa County and CCWD has since operated and maintained this federal facility to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality water to the region; and
WHEREAS, CCWD began providing treated water to communities in Central Contra Costa County in the early 1960s; and
WHEREAS, CCWD’s Los Vaqueros Reservoir, which was locally funded and built in 1998 and expanded in 2012, has served as a vital facility for ensuring water quality and supply reliability; and
WHEREAS, CCWD has continued to invest in infrastructure and technology to support water treatment, quality, and long-term reliability; and
WHEREAS, today CCWD serves approximately 550,000 people in Central and Eastern Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, CCWD has a long history of providing high-quality, reliable water and working collaboratively with local stakeholders and partners to support a strong and thriving regional economy; and
WHEREAS, CCWD is planning for the next 100 years by identifying local investments and regional partnerships to ensure reliable, high-quality water services today and for future generations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes the 90th anniversary of the Contra Costa Water District, and expresses its sincere appreciation for its decades of dedicated service to the community.
