RECOMMENDATIONS:
ADOPT Resolution No 2024/x honoring Assistant Fire Chief Lon Goetsch on the occasion of his retirement from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

IN THE MATTER OF honoring Lon Goetsch, Assistant Fire Chief, upon his retirement from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District after 22 years of service with Contra Costa County,
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch began his service with Contra Costa County as a Firefighter-Paramedic on May 6, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch was promoted to Fire Engineer on June 16, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch was promoted to Fire Captain on November 1, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch was promoted to Battalion Chief on April 26, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch was temporarily upgraded to Assistant Fire Chief on July 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief on March 10, 2015; and
WHEREAS, throughout his time with the Fire District, Chief Lon Goetsch was one of the pioneers of the engine-based paramedic program; and, as a Fire Engineer at Station 10, he assisted with the hose program and helped to advance the technical rescue program, Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC), and Firefighter Safety and Survival training; and
WHEREAS, Chief Lon Goetsch was a member of the California Task Force 4 Urban Search and Rescue (CATF4 USAR) team as well as the East Bay Incident Management Team; served in Strike Team Leader and overhead assignments on numerous statewide mutual aid deployments; fostered relationships and improved response in the County with standardization of policies and procedures with outside agency partners and joint training; was instrumental in the success of the West County USAR consortium; and led the Wildland Fire Program; and
WHEREAS, Chief Lon Goetsch was instrumental in the accreditation of the Fire District’s Academy Training Center and in facilitating numerous upgrades within the Fire District over the years; and
WHEREAS, Lon Goetsch retired from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, as Assistant Fire Chief, on March 29, 2024.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Board of Directors extends its thanks and honors Lon Goetsch for his dedicated and outstanding service to Contra Costa County and wishes him well on his retirement from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and in all his future endeavors.
