IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MORAGA

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR ANA MOON

 

WHEREAS, the Moraga Citizen of the Year Committee has recognized Ana Moon as Moraga’s 46th honoree of this highest honor, celebrating her outstanding volunteer contributions to the Town of Moraga; and

WHEREAS, a product of Northern California public schools, Ana is a strong believer that every child deserves access to an excellent public education. Since moving to Moraga in 2010, she has been an active volunteer in local schools and the community. Ana holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley School of Law, reflecting her strong academic foundation and commitment to excellence; and

WHEREAS, Ana is widely known throughout the Moraga community for her exceptional leadership and service in local Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), the Moraga Education Foundation (MEF), the Town of Moraga 50th Anniversary celebration, and community safety initiatives; and

WHEREAS, for nearly a decade, Ana has dedicated herself to the Moraga Education Foundation, serving in multiple volunteer leadership roles including President, Recording Secretary, and Director of Communications; and

WHEREAS, through her passion, vision, and expertise, Ana has helped raise millions of dollars in support of Moraga’s public schools, significantly strengthening educational opportunities for local students; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, Ana provided exemplary leadership in guiding the Measure D campaign, which successfully secured $52 million in funding for critical school infrastructure improvements; and

WHEREAS, Ana played an integral role in the Town of Moraga’s 50th Anniversary celebration, helping to organize community events including a parade, time capsule, and commemorative light pole banners; and

WHEREAS, Ana conceived and brought to life a remarkable Community Cookbook featuring hundreds of recipes submitted by Moraga residents and local officials, including Supervisor Andersen, which also included  historical reflections, creating both a cherished community keepsake and an important fundraising success for the anniversary celebration; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, during community discussions on gun safety, Ana demonstrated courageous, thoughtful, and collaborative leadership that contributed to the Moraga Town Council’s decision to adopt a gun safe storage ordinance; and

WHEREAS, Ana is distinguished by her unique ability to identify community needs, engage stakeholders, and mobilize collaborative solutions with creativity, inspiration, and deep knowledge of community building; and

WHEREAS, Ana is a devoted mother to two children, Andy, a second-year student at the University of Puget Sound, and Abigail, an 8th-grade student at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School; and

WHEREAS, Ana has a passion for needlepoint and has created many beautiful and meaningful pieces for family and friends, often spending her free time with needle in hand, lovingly crafting special projects that reflect her creativity and care; and

WHEREAS, Ana and her husband, Eric, also an attorney, have proudly called Moraga home since 2010, contributing to the fabric and vitality of the community.

Now, therefore be it resolved that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby honor

 

Ana Moon

as Moraga’s 46th Citizen of the Year, expressing profound gratitude for her extraordinary service, leadership, and enduring contributions to the Moraga community.
