The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California
body
IN THE MATTER OF Resolution recognizing Gaby Ghorbani receiving the federal D. glover adult humanitarian of the year
Whereas, Gaby’s main desires are to give every child the opportunity to give back to their community - and she does that through Pledge to Humanity; and
WHEREAS, Gaby began Pledge to Humanity (PTH) in 2009, sitting around her kitchen table with her 3 young children. They were her first “Volunteers,” eventually becoming the original PTH Board of Directors; and
Whereas, she promoted her version of “Charity” while working with her children and their friends serving in the local soup kitchen, making sandwiches for local homeless shelters, and putting toiletry kits together for other local charities’ wish lists; and
Whereas, Gaby has inspired over fifteen thousand youth volunteers in the last seventeen years and helped to contribute over $18.2M in economic value for Contra Costa County; and
Whereas, Gaby and her multitude of volunteers have partnered at one time or another with over fifty non-profit groups throughout the County on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis, and especially during the holidays when the need is even greater; and
Whereas, Gaby’s goal is to inspire youth to become Changemakers. To serve, learn and empower youth; and
WHEREAS, Gaby believes very strongly that one’s age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, physical or mental challenges or history of any kind should not preclude one from helping others; and
WHEREAS Pledge to Humanity, with Gaby’s leadership provides volunteer opportunities for anyone who wishes to give back to their community, and Gaby and the organization draw so many children and adults into the organization who care deeply about the mission of Pledge to Humanity; and
WHEREAS, Gaby and Pledge to Humanity have partnered with over fifty organizations over the last seventeen years, but Gaby’s time and effort go beyond these fifty specific groups. She is always looking for new partners to collaborate with PTH, providing volunteers with opportunities and organizations with critical resources to support their own missions, connecting everyone involved; and
WHEREAS, Pledge to Humanity has worked with homeless shelters, domestic abuse homes, food banks, senior citizen facilities, our troops, foster children, and those who may be physically challenged. Gaby creates opportunities time and time again for our volunteers to engage in acts of kindness - to make a kit, serve a meal, create a blanket, and many other activities - with the goal that both the volunteer and the recipient feel nourished and fulfilled; and
Now, therefore be it resolved that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby honor
Gaby Ghorbani
For her dedication to Contra Costa County by empowering youth to become Changemakers.
