IN THE MATTER OF COMMEMORATING AMERICA’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY AS RECOMMENDED BY SUPERVISORS BURGIS AND ANDERSEN
WHEREAS, on July 4, 2026, the United States of America will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence; and
WHEREAS, this historic milestone provides an opportunity for communities across the nation to reflect on our shared history, honor the diverse individuals who contributed to our independence, and renew our commitment to the enduring ideals of liberty, equality, and representative government; and
WHEREAS, the Semi-quincentennial encourages educational programs, civic engagement, historic preservation, and community service that connect past, present, and future generations; and
WHEREAS, local heritage and civic organizations, including members of the Acalanes Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, are helping promote educational and commemorative activities in support of America’s 250th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, commemorative events offer an opportunity to recognize the contributions of veterans, public servants, and everyday residents whose dedication continues to strengthen our nation; and
WHEREAS, the 250th Anniversary of the United States provides an opportunity to recognize the ongoing contributions of generations of Americans who have worked to expand opportunity, strengthen democratic institutions, and advance the promise of liberty and justice for all; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County is enriched by a diverse and engaged community whose residents continue to demonstrate the civic spirit, volunteerism, and commitment to public service that help sustain a vibrant democracy; and
WHEREAS, celebrating this milestone inspires all Americans to reaffirm the principles of freedom, democracy, and unity that have guided the United States for two and a half centuries; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contras Costa County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim 2026 as the celebration year of America’s 250th Anniversary in our community and encourage all residents to participate in appropriate commemorative and educational activities.
