IN THE MATTER OF recognizing the 100th Anniversary of International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials.

WHEREAS, this effort led to the founding of what is now known as IAPMO, formerly the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, whose original mandate was “to advance the latest and most improved methods of sanitation; to promote the welfare of and harmony between the owner, the builder, and the craftsman; and to accomplish uniformity in the application of the provisions of the ordinances”; and

WHEREAS, IAPMO convened inspectors, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, utilities, and other stakeholders to develop model codes and standards that have advanced safe and effective plumbing and mechanical systems for generations; and

WHEREAS, IAPMO first served the people of the County of Contra Costa through the development of the Uniform Plumbing Code, originally published in 1945, providing a comprehensive framework to safeguard health, safety, and sanitation for residents and businesses health and safety through the design, installation, and maintenance of plumbing systems; and

WHEREAS, over the past century, IAPMO has expanded from its Southern California roots into an international organization of technical experts dedicated to advancing public health, safety, and access to clean water and sanitation through development of model codes and standards, product testing and certification, professional education, workforce training, and technical expertise; and

WHEREAS, IAPMO's Uniform Codes, including the Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code, have impacted the lives of millions of people around the world but helping jurisdictions across four continents establish safe, reliable, and effective building systems that protect communities and support economic development; and

WHEREAS, IAPMO continues to support Contra Costa County's economy and workforce through education, training, and certification programs that equip plumbers, inspectors, engineers, contractors, and manufacturers to advance public health, infrastructure resilience, water efficiency, and housing development, building upon a century of California-rooted leadership in codes, standards, and professional development; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors recognizes the 100th Anniversary of International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials in Contra Costa County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors the organization for its century of contributions to public health, safety, sanitation, and the built environment.
