ADOPT resolution recognizing the week of May 6-12, 2026 as National Nurses Week.

IN THE MATTER OF Recognizing National Nurses Week (May 6-12, 2026)
WHEREAS, nurses are the true heartbeat of healthcare, offering compassionate care, deep expertise, and steadfast support to individuals and communities. Their impact reaches across hospitals and clinics, schools, detention facilities, behavioral health programs, community health settings, and especially to the most vulnerable to health problems; and
WHEREAS, the dedication, commitment, and tireless efforts of the 1,669 registered and licensed vocational nurses, nurse practitioners, and nurse managers employed by Contra Costa Health make a difference in the health and well-being of our residents; and
WHEREAS, nurses demonstrate unwavering professionalism, courage, and resilience, especially during times of crisis, ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services to all those in need; and
WHEREAS, nurses serve on the front lines, risking their lives treating the injured and sick every day, including during natural disasters and public health emergencies; and
WHEREAS, nurses serve as advocates for patients and clients, advocating for their rights, dignity, and access to healthcare and social services, while promoting health equity and social justice; and
WHEREAS, nurses play a critical role in educating patients and clients, families, and communities about preventive health measures, disease management, and healthy lifestyles, empowering individuals to take control of their health; and
WHEREAS, nurses are at the forefront of innovation, utilizing advanced technologies and evidence-based practices to enhance patient outcomes, improve healthcare delivery, and address emerging social needs and health challenges; and
WHEREAS, National Nurses Week is celebrated each year between May 6, National Nurses Day, and May 12, the birthday of pioneering nurse Florence Nightingale.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2026, as National Nurses Week in Contra Costa County. We urge all residents to join us in expressing gratitude and appreciation to nurses for their exceptional service, dedication, and compassion.
