RECOMMENDATIONS:

ADOPT Resolution ratifying the prior decision of the Public Works Director, or designee, to partially close a portion of Canyon Lake Drive from Reservoir Street to the terminus, on July 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m., for the purpose of traffic control and fire protection related to a community event, Port Costa area. (District V)

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact.

 

BACKGROUND:

For the past several years, Port Costa residents have requested permission to close Canyon Lake Drive at Reservoir Steet for the 4th of July. The closure is requested to provide easier access for emergency personnel in the case of a fire, and has been supported by the Crockett-Carquinez Fire District. As the applicant, Suzanne Statler shall follow guidelines set forth by the Public Works Department.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Suzanne Statler will not have Board approval for completed road closure.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that permission is granted to Suzanne Statler to fully close Canyon Lake Drive from Reservoir Street to the terminus, except for emergency traffic, local residents, US Postal Service and garbage trucks, on July 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m., subject to the following conditions:

 

1. Traffic will be detoured via roads identified in a traffic control plan, reviewed by the Public Works Department. Emergency vehicles, residents within the event area and essential services will be allowed access as required.

 

2. All signing to be in accordance with the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

 

3. Suzanne Statler shall comply with the requirements of the Ordinance Code of Contra Costa County.

 

4. Provide the County with a Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.00 for Comprehensive General Public Liability which names the County as an additional insured prior to permit issuance.

 

5. Obtain approval for the closure from the California Highway Patrol, Sheriff’s Office, and the Crockett-Carquinez Fire Protection District.
