Report Title: Contract #76-783-2 with Charisma Kaushik, M.D.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Interim Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Contract #76-783-2 with Charisma Kaushik, M.D., an individual, in an amount not to exceed $350,000, to provide emergency medicine services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Contra Costa Health Centers for the period from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this Contract will result in contractual service expenditures of up to $350,000 over a two-year period and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the limited number of specialty providers available within the community, CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers relies on Contractors to provide necessary emergency medicine physician services including clinic coverage, consultation, medical and/or surgical procedures to its patients. This Contractor has been a part of the CCRMC Provider Network providing these services and fostering a deep understanding of the County’s organizations mission, values, and long-term objectives since July 1, 2022.
This Contract is entered into under and subject to the following legal authorities: California Government Code §§ 26227 and 31000; Health and Safety Code § 1451. Health Services Personnel approved this Contract to ensure no conflicts with labor relations. Contractor shall comply with the requirements and procedures set forth in the CCRMC Medical Staff By-Laws, including but not limited to those procedures governing the peer review process. Per Administrative Bulletin 600.3 CCRMC Physician services are exempt from Solicitation requirements.
On July 18, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #76-783-1 with Charisma Kaushik, M.D., in an amount not to exceed $440,000, to provide emergency medicine physician services at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2025.
Approval of Contract #76-783-2 will allow Contractor to continue providing emergency medicine physician services at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers through June 30, 2027.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Contract is not approved, the necessary emergency medicine physician services needed for patient care will not be available or will create increased wait times due to the limited number of specialty providers available within the community.
