ADOPT a resolution recognizing Tim Leong on his retirement and for his 15 years of service to the Contra Costa Community College District as recommended by Supervisor Carlson.

IN THE MATTER OF

Recognizing Tim Leong on his retirement and for his 15 years of service to the Contra Costa Community College District.

 

WHEREAS, Tim Leong served as the Director of Communications and Community Relations at the Contra Costa Community College District (4CD), the first person to serve in this role; and

 

WHEREAS, he joined the District in 2008 and has 39 years of communications and community and governmental relations experience; and

 

WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District is one of the largest multi-college community college districts in California, comprised of Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College, and Los Medanos; and

 

WHEREAS, Tim’s communications experience includes producing and reporting at KRON-TV in San Francisco and KCRA-TV in Sacramento before becoming Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s first Asian American company spokesperson; and

 

WHEREAS, he later expanded his role as one of the utility’s external relations leader on the state and national level which included grassroots advocacy, stakeholder relations, and charitable contributions; and

 

WHEREAS, after leaving PG&E, Tim became the founding President and Executive Director of the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund, provided external relations consulting to nonprofits and Fortune 500 companies, and was the Vice President of Corporate Communications for GreenPoint Mortgage, a subsidiary of Capital One; and

 

WHEREAS, Tim was the former President of the Community College Public Relations Organization, a professional development and service organization that seeks to promote excellence in California’s community college public relations and related professions, and he has coached three colleges as part of the Strategic Enrollment Management Academy and is now a member of its Core Leadership Team; and

 

WHEREAS, Tim has served as the district’s key public relations expert and was responsible for managing public and government relations, marketing, media relations, issues management and crisis communications; and

 

WHEREAS, Tim has been a true advocate for the Contra Costa Community College District promoting the education and job training programs at every opportunity.

 

 

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors does hereby recognize and honor Tim Leong on his retirement and for his 15 years of dedicated service to the Contra Costa Community College District.
