Alice Zhou is an11th grader from Miramonte High School in Orinda, CA.

IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Alice Zhou as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Innovation and Empowerment.

 

WHEREAS, every March, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hosts a celebration in honor of César E. Chávez in recognition of his commitment to social justice and respect for human dignity; and  

 

WHEREAS, this year's theme is Perseverance & Progress- Perseverancia y Progreso; and    

 

WHEREAS, we take this opportunity to share stories of local students who are working hard to move us forward and improve the lives of others; and    

 

WHEREAS, we recognize these students with the Youth Hall of Fame Awards during the celebration for their contributions to our community and in the spirit of one of our country’s most treasured activists: César E. Chávez; and    

 

WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is proud to recognize Alice Zhou, an11th grader from Miramonte High School; and     

 

WHEREAS, Alice founded Finclusion. Finclusion is a non-profit organization that provides fellowships to low-income high school students so they can learn about investing in socially responsible companies; and 

 

WHEREAS, before attending Miramonte High School, Alice was a student in the Oakland Unified School District. Alice experienced exclusions from educational and extracurricular engagement opportunities due to financial barriers; and    

 

WHEREAS, Alice set out to solve this issue for low-income students like herself and she forged a solution with Finclusion; and

 

WHEREAS, Alice wants to create a pathway for low-income students to attain economic mobility through fellowships that ward cash grants so young people can invest in a stock of their choice; and    

 

WHEREAS, Finclusion currently partners with 11 Title 1 high schools and more than 300 students have gone through the fellowship; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors recognizes Alice Zhou as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Innovation and Empowerment, and for exemplifying the values of service, integrity, kindness, activism, and leadership that César Chávez embodied through his life.
