RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Contract Amendment Agreement #76-555-8 with Initha R. Elangovan, M.D., an individual, effective January 1, 2024, to amend Contract #76-555-7 to increase the payment limit by $230,000, from $1,750,000 to a new payment limit of $1,980,000, with no change in the original term of April 5, 2023 through March 31, 2026.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this amendment will result in additional expenditures of up to $230,000 and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues. (No rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
Due to the limited number of specialty providers available within the community, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Contra Costa Health Centers relies on contracts to provide necessary specialty health services to its patients. This contractor has been providing pulmonary services, including but not limited to: on-call and clinic coverage, consultation, critical care, bronchoscopies procedures, and staffing services in the Critical Care Unit at CCRMC and Health Centers since September 1, 2016. This contract is entered into under and subject to the following legal authorities: California Government Code §§ 26227 and 31000; Health and Safety Code § 1451. Health Services Personnel approved this contract to ensure no conflicts with labor relations in December 2023.
On April 4, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved (1) Cancellation Agreement #76-555-6 with Initha R. Elangovan, M.D., effective at the end of business on April 4, 2023; and (2) Contract #76-555-7 with Initha R. Elangovan, M.D., in an amount not to exceed $1,750,000, for the provision of pulmonary services at CCRMC and Health Centers, for the period April 5, 2023 through March 31, 2026.
Approval of Contract #76-555-8 will allow the contractor to provide additional pulmonary services through March 31, 2026.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this amendment is not approved, patients requiring pulmonary services at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers will not have access to contractor’s additional services.
