RECOMMENDATIONS:

ADOPT a Resolution recognizing the contributions of Craig Standafer on the occasion of his retirement from Contra Costa County, as recommended by the Public Works Director

Resolution recognizing Craig Standafer on the occasion of his retirement Contra Costa County.

IN THE MATTER OF Recognizing the contributions of Craig Standafer on the occasion of his retirement from Contra Costa County.

 

WHEREAS, in 1998 Craig Standafer received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in construction from University of California; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2002, Craig started his career with the Public Works Department as an Engineer - Entry in the Design Division, and then rotated to the Flood Control Division, then Engineering Services, and ended his career in the Transportation Engineering Division; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig was promoted to Engineer- Journey in 2004, promoted to Engineer - Project in 2021, and promoted to Associate Civil Engineer in the Transportation Engineering Division in 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig completed the American Public Works Association Public Works Institute, Modules 1 through 4, a program of instruction in Public Works Supervision and Management which focusses on developing management, supervisory, and leadership skills among public works managers; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig was part of the team that received a nomination for the 2022 Michael Walford Team of the Year for Vision Zero. Vision Zero is the elimination of severe injuries and fatalities resulting from traffic collisions on County roadways. The County’s Vision Zero program, as implemented by the Transportation Engineering Division, seeks to identify opportunities for the County to improve safety for all modes of transportation through roadway engineering projects; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig was part of the team that received a nomination for the 2023 Michael Walford Team of the Year for the Transportation Grants Program, which worked to improve grant applications and improve the success rate for the County in obtaining grant funding for transportation projects; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig was president of Toastmasters International - Toastbusters Club from 2013 to 2014, and 2023 to 2025. Toastmasters allows members to practice the public speaking skills they need to communicate with confidence and excellence; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig was the Public Works Employee Association (PWEA) Chairman in 2025. PWEA is an employee committee to manage fun social activities, employee conveniences, and amenities, and which helps to make Public Works a more enjoyable place to work; and

 

WHEREAS, Craig led the effort to prepare the Capital Road Improvement and Preservation Program (CRIPP) document in 2025. The Contra Costa County CRIPP describes how Public Works maintains and improves the County’s infrastructure within the public road right of way. The CRIPP explains upcoming projects and their budgets to improve the County’s roadways, bridges, storm drains, traffic lights, bike infrastructure, sidewalks, curb ramps, and roadway landscaping; and

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that Craig Standafer be recognized for his 23 years of service to Contra Costa County, for the work performed by him during his career, and to wish him, his wife, and his children the best in his retirement.
