IN THE MATTER OF recognizing the collaboration of the Inclusivity and Wellness Center and the Community of Pride Learning Community at Diablo Valley College for their contributions to uplifting LGBTQIA+ students
WHEREAS, the Inclusivity and Wellness Center and the Community of Pride Learning Community at Diablo Valley College provide comprehensive support for LGBTQIA+ students, bridging academic learning with essential wellness and social support; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Pride Learning Community provides academic support, counseling, and mentorship to LGBTQIA+ students; and
WHEREAS, the Inclusivity and Wellness Center hosts workshops, lectures, trainings, and LGBTQIA+ awareness events to foster queer-and trans-inclusive teaching across the college; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Pride Learning Community was founded in 2019 by Professor James Wilson and was joined by Christie Harrington-Tsai to create an LGBTQIA+ learning community at Diablo Valley College; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Pride Learning Community at Diablo Valley College is the first community college in California to establish a dedicated learning community for LGBTQIA+ students and their allies; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Pride Learning Community provides general education courses tailored to the issues related to queer identity, history, and culture, where students are taught by LGBTQIA+ faculty and allies to build a safe space; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Pride Learning Community has served 260 students as of the Spring 2026 semester, and consistently serves between 50 and 60 students per semester; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Pride Learning Community has held four Lavender Graduations to celebrate students who finished this program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby recognizes the Inclusivity and Wellness Center and the Community of Pride Learning Community for their innovation and unwavering commitment to uplifting the LGBTQIA+ students of Diablo Valley College, and for its meaningful contributions toward making Contra Costa County a welcoming and inclusive place for all.
