Report Title: California New Motor Vehicle Board ZEV Readiness Award Recognition.
☒Recommendation of the County Administrator ☐ Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:
ACCEPT the California New Motor Vehicle Board’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Readiness Award recognizing Contra Costa County’s Public Works team for leadership in advancing zero-emission vehicle readiness, transportation electrification, fleet electrification planning, and regional coordination.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
BACKGROUND:
The California New Motor Vehicle Board has selected Contra Costa County to receive its Zero-Emission Vehicle Readiness Award, recognizing the County’s leadership in preparing for a cleaner transportation future and advancing zero-emission vehicle readiness.
The County has demonstrated this leadership through its Climate Emergency Declaration, Diesel Free by ’33 pledge, fleet electrification planning, and efforts to expand charging infrastructure. A key example is the County’s California Energy Commission grant, which will support Level 2 and DC fast charging infrastructure at County vehicle domicile locations to help electrify the County fleet.
Contra Costa County has also served as a regional convener by bringing together cities and public agencies across the county to coordinate transportation electrification, share lessons learned, and identify common infrastructure needs. The County has pursued additional community-serving charging opportunities, including the EV-4-All grant concept for public library sites, which has been awarded but not yet allocated.
This award recognizes the County’s commitment to climate action, equity, public agency coordination, and the long-term work required to make Contra Costa County ZEV-ready.
This action supports the County’s efforts to reduce transportation-related emissions and improve air quality, which benefits children and families throughout Contra Costa County.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the Board does not accept the award, the County would not formally recognize the California New Motor Vehicle Board’s acknowledgement of the County’s leadership in zero-emission vehicle readiness.
