IN THE MATTER OF Resolution Recognizing
Shirley Krohn, Senior Assemblymember of the California Legislature
WHEREAS, Shirley Krohn has devoted her life to serving older adults in Contra Costa County and throughout California, beginning with her work as Chairman of the Board of the Bechtel Credit Union, where she became a leader in the fight against elder financial abuse; and
WHEREAS, Following her retirement, Shirley continued her service by joining the Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging, where she twice served as President and worked tirelessly to ensure that the voices of local seniors were heard; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Krohn has represented Contra Costa County for nearly two decades in the California Senior Legislature, serving as a Senior Assemblymember and as Vice Chair of the Joint Rules Committee, helping advance senior-focused legislation in the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Shirley has been a powerful advocate on issues critical to Contra Costa County residents, including protections for vulnerable seniors, dementia care, transportation, and end-of-life decision making; and
WHEREAS, Shirley has generously shared her experience with students at California State University campuses, mentoring the next generation of social workers and advocates, many of whom are preparing to serve Contra Costa’s diverse communities; and
WHEREAS, Shirley’s outstanding leadership and contributions have been recognized locally, statewide, and nationally, including her selection as Citizen of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers; being awarded the both the CSL Moira Jackson Award for distinguished service as well as CSL Senior Legislator of the Decade award and
WHEREAS, Shirley has remained steadfast in her commitment even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, working to ensure senior advocacy continued without interruption.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes and commends Shirley Krohn for her decades of leadership, advocacy, and dedicated service to seniors in Contra Costa County and throughout California; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board proudly honors Shirley Krohn for her service to Older Californians and expresses its deepest gratitude for her enduring contributions to the health, dignity, and well-being of older adults.
