BACKGROUND:

Behavioral Health is requesting to add two (2) Mental Health Specialist II positions and two to the Children’s System of Care. Specifically, these positions are needed for an in-house Intensive Home-Based Services (IHBS) program. IHBS are necessary, individualized strength-based interventions designed to ameliorate mental health conditions that negatively impact/interfere with a child or adolescent’s functioning. IHBS providers teach and model healthy life and social skills, self-regulation, and decrease non-functional behaviors that impact daily living tasks. The aim of IHBS is to improve areas of vulnerability and achieve the goals set in the mental health treatment/care plan. IHBS are state-mandated specialty mental health services.

The Mental Health Specialist II positions will provide home, school and field-based mental health supports to youth, aimed at increasing their coping skills and decreasing behaviors that prevent successful participation in daily tasks, meaningful activities, and social relationships.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If not approved, the Children’s system of care will not be able to delivery critical care to vulnerable children & adolescents.
