RECOMMENDATIONS:

ADOPT a Resolution recognizing the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue for 50 years of dedicated community service, invaluable capabilities, and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Contra Costa County, and recognize the team during the Board of Supervisors meeting on June 10, 2025, as recommended by the Sheriff-Coroner.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

 

 

BACKGROUND:

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Contra Costa County Search and Rescue (SAR).  In 1974, SAR was formed. Since that inception, past and present team members have worked over 1,300,000 volunteer hours and executed over 4,750 missions for the benefit of the citizens of Contra Costa County and the State of California. SAR has served as a vital resource for the community, dedicating its efforts to the safety and well-being of individuals in need of rescue, support, and assistance.  Presently, SAR is comprised of a 200 plus, all volunteer team who, under the Office of the Sheriff, stand ready on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team has exemplified professionalism, bravery, and unwavering commitment to public service, with its members consistently putting their lives on the line in support of others.  SAR works within California Office of Emergency Services and Mutual Aid guidelines in order to accomplish their missions.

 

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board does not approve, the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue team will not be recognized for their 50 years of dedicated service.

IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Contra Costa County Search and Rescue for 50 years of dedicated community service, invaluable capabilities and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Contra Costa County, California.

 

WHEREAS, 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Contra Costa County Search and Rescue (SAR).  In 1974, SAR was formed. WHEREAS, throughout its history, SAR has not only demonstrated exceptional capability in emergency response but has also pioneered innovative training methods, advanced techniques, and community outreach programs to ensure continued excellence in service delivery.  SAR Team members host an annual citizens academy and are highly trained in missing & at-risk person searches, emergency medical aid and disaster response; and

 

WHEREAS, SAR’s legacy of volunteerism, dedication, and sacrifice continues to inspire current and future generations of volunteers, first-responders and citizens; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby recognize and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue and encourage all citizens of Contra Costa County to join in celebrating their anniversary.
