Every November, for Homelessness Awareness Month, the Council on Homelessness recognizes outstanding individuals, groups and partnerships for their work addressing homelessness in Contra Costa. At the direction of the Council, staff solicited for nominations under 4 categories: Phoenix Rising: for individuals with a lived experience of homelessness who have demonstrated outstanding courage, strength and/or resilience; Outstanding Partnership: for partnerships [with/between government agencies, nonprofits/CBOs, advocacy groups, faith organizations, individuals (including those facing homelessness), and businesses] that support people at risk of or experiencing homelessness; Outstanding Volunteer: for individuals or groups who have enriched the lives of people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Contra Costa County through volunteer effort and Outstanding Housing Provider: for landlords, property management companies, and other housing operators that create permanent housing opportunities for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
The Homelessness Awareness Month Committee reviewed staff recommendations at their 9/22/26 meeting and voted to recommend the attached slate for recognition by the Council on Homelessness.
Once approved by the Council, Nominees will be notified of their nominations and recognition opportunities including :
- Names and accomplishments included in HAM toolkit to go out to 2500+ people
- Names and accomplishments included in packet presented to Board of Supervisors on 11/17
- HAM reception at the County Administration Building in Martinez on November 17, 2026 from Noon - 1:30 will include a visual gallery highlighting nominees for all categories, certificates of recognition and a highlight of Phoenix Rising nominees during a short program during the reception
