RECOMMENDATIONS:

ADOPT resolution proclaiming February 20, 2026, as “Government Communicators Day” in Contra Costa County, as recommended by the Director of the Office of Communications & Media.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact.

 

BACKGROUND:

Government Communicators Day is celebrated each year on the third Friday of February to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of government communicators in Contra Costa County.

 

The County will join communities nationwide in the annual celebration that brings awareness to the importance of government communications professionals, whose work helps residents participate in local government and helps them stay informed.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Contra Costa County will not declare February 20 as Government Communicators Day.

IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Government Communicators Day

 

 

WHEREAS, government communications professionals serve as a critical bridge between public institutions and the residents they serve, ensuring that essential information is accurate, accessible, and responsive to community needs; and

 

WHEREAS, effective government communications strengthen public trust, support transparency, and encourage residents to engage in civic dialogue, participate in local decision-making, and take collective action to support their communities; and

 

WHEREAS, government communicators elevate community voices, build meaningful relationships, and use clear, compelling storytelling across diverse platforms to ensure all residents - regardless of language, background, or ability - have opportunities to be informed and included; and

 

WHEREAS, timely, trusted, and equitable communication is fundamental to a healthy democracy, empowering residents to navigate public services, understand policy decisions, and participate fully in civic life; and

 

WHEREAS, Contra Costa County values the expertise, dedication, creativity, and public service commitment of government communicators, whose work strengthens community resilience, enhances public understanding, and upholds the County’s principles of transparency and accountability.

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that Contra Costa County hereby proclaims February 20, 2026, as Government Communicators Day, honoring the essential contributions of these professionals in advancing open government, supporting informed communities, and strengthening the democratic process.
