Report Title:                      Purchase Order with Priority Healthcare Distribution, Inc. dba Curascript Specialty Distribution

Recommendation: Recommendation of the County Administrator

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute on behalf of the Health Services Director, a purchase order with Priority Healthcare Distribution, Inc. (dba Curascript Specialty Distribution), in an amount not to exceed $500,000 for the hormone implant Nexplanon to be used at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC), Health Clinics, and Contra Costa Detention Health for the period from December 1, 2026 through November 30, 2027.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this purchase order will result in expenditures of up to $500,000 and will be funded by the Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.

BACKGROUND:

Priority Healthcare Distribution, Inc. is a pharmaceutical company that provides CCRMC, Health Centers, and Contra Costa Detention Health with hormone implant Nexplanon to be used in the Obstetrics/Gynecology Departments. Curascript is the sole provider for Nexplanon.

On November 5, 2024, the Board of Supervisors approved agenda item C.61 to execute purchase order #31436 with Priority Healthcare Distribution, Inc. dba Curascript Specialty Distribution in the amount of $500,000 for the period of December 1, 2024 through November 30, 2025.

On December 9, 2025, the Board of Supervisors approved agenda item C.60 to execute purchase order #34155 with Priority Healthcare Distribution, Inc. dba Curascript Specialty Distribution in the amount of $500,000 for the period of December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2026. This Contractor was approved by the Public Works Department’s Purchasing Division on August 26, 2026.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this purchase order is not approved, Contra Costa Health will be unable to procure Nexplanon, resulting in a direct interruption to contraceptive care for patients in the Obstetrics/Gynecology departments at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, Health Clinics, and Contra Costa Detention Health, with potential adverse health outcomes for the affected population.
