The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California

IN THE MATTER OF: Proclaiming September 10th -19th Welcoming Week 2026 By the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors

Whereas, during the week of September 10th - 19th, 2026, our community will come together to find common ground with our neighbors, celebrate our shared values and diverse cultures and perspectives, and deepen our commitments to building a stronger and more resilient County, and

Whereas, Welcoming Week is a national initiative created by Welcoming America in 2012. Communities use it to bring together immigrants, refugees, and longtime residents to strengthen connections, promote belonging, and celebrate the value everyone brings to the community, and

Whereas, by formalizing our community’s commitment to inclusion, a Welcoming Week proclamation serves to deepen the spirit of belonging among all our neighbors, both immigrant and non-immigrant alike, and

Whereas, we are much stronger when we embrace our similarities and differences, and the members of our community will do just that by sharing food, music, art, conversation, and more throughout the week, and

Whereas, this year, the SAFE Center is organizing and hosting Contra Costa County's first Welcoming Week. Throughout the week, we will celebrate and elevate immigrant contributions by recognizing the cultural, economic, civic, and social contributions immigrants make to our community, and

Whereas, while this week provides an opportunity to pause, reflect, and plan for the next phase of welcoming work, our immigrant communities prioritize a spirit of welcoming year-round, and

Whereas, welcoming is a core part of who we are and who we have always been, and Contra Costa County will continue to choose connection, courage, and love over division, fear, and hate

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Board of Supervisors, Contra Costa County do hereby proclaim the week of September 10th-19th, 2026, Welcoming Week and call upon the people of Contra Costa County to join together to build stronger communities.
