IN THE MATTER OF Honoring Sheri Marie Smith and Declaring

September 26, 2026, “Sheri Smith Day” in

Contra Costa County

 

WHEREAS, Sheri Marie Smith has devoted an extraordinary 34 years to public service, demonstrating unwavering professionalism, integrity, dedication, and commitment to good governance; and

 

WHEREAS, Sheri began her service to the City of Orinda on September 26, 2016, and will officially retire on September 26, 2026, exactly ten years to the day she started, demonstrating a fitting precision for someone whose career has been defined by calendars, deadlines, records, and getting every detail right; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, including ten years as Orinda’s City Clerk, Sheri has provided exemplary service in municipal administration, elections, public records, legislative processes, and the operations of elected bodies, helping ensure transparency, accountability, and public access to local government; and

 

WHEREAS, Sheri has played an important role in supporting the City of Orinda’s modernization efforts, improving records and agenda management, mentoring colleagues, and maintaining the calm, steady, and patient professionalism that has defined her public service; and

 

WHEREAS, Sheri has contributed to the strength and effectiveness of local government through modernization of records and agenda management, improvements to administrative processes, mentorship of colleagues, and her steadfast commitment to accuracy, transparency, and public service; and

 

WHEREAS, the work of municipal clerks is fundamental to the functioning of local democracy, supporting elections, maintaining public records, facilitating the work of elected bodies, and helping ensure that the business of government is conducted openly and in accordance with law; and

 

WHEREAS, Supervisor Candace Andersen is so appreciative of Sheri’s collaboration with her office on many important matters, and she and the entire Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors recognize that dedicated public servants such as Sheri strengthen our local institutions, uphold public trust, and leave communities better than they found them; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes and honors Sheri Marie Smith for her 34 years of distinguished public service, including ten outstanding years of service to the City of Orinda, and extends its deepest appreciation for her dedication, integrity, professionalism, and lasting contributions to the community.
