IN THE MATTER OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER AS OVARIAN
CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, ovarian cancer affects thousands of women and families each year, and September serves as an opportunity to raise awareness, encourage education, and recognize the importance of research, support, and early attention to symptoms; and
WHEREAS, ovarian cancer is one of the most serious gynecologic cancers, in part because its symptoms are often subtle and there is currently no reliable screening test for early detection; and
WHEREAS, educating the public about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, including persistent bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, and urinary urgency or frequency, encourages individuals to seek medical advice when symptoms persist and supports earlier evaluation; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County honors the strength and resilience of those living with ovarian cancer, remembers those who have lost their lives to the disease, and recognizes the unwavering support of families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates working to improve treatment, advance research, and ultimately find a cure; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Contra Costa County and encourages all residents to learn about ovarian cancer, recognize its symptoms, support those affected, and promote awareness, education, research, and early intervention.
