ADOPT Resolution recognizing Nitya Varanasi as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Good Samaritan.

Nitya Varanasi is a 9th grader from California High School in San Ramon, CA.

IN THE MATTER OF recognizing Nitya Varanasi as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Good Samaritan   

 

WHEREAS, every March, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hosts a celebration in honor of César E. Chávez in recognition of his commitment to social justice and respect for human dignity; and  

 

WHEREAS, this year's theme is Perseverance & Progress- Perseverancia y Progreso; and    

 

WHEREAS, we take this opportunity to share stories of local students who are working hard to move us forward and improve the lives of others; and    

 

WHEREAS, we recognize these students with the Youth Hall of Fame Awards during the celebration for their contributions to our community and in the spirit of one of our country’s most treasured activists: César E. Chávez; and    

 

WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is proud to recognize Nitya Varanasi is a 9th grader from California High School; and     

 

WHEREAS, Nitya has been on student council since she was in 5th grade and enjoys giving back to her school community and improving it for all students to feel welcome and supported in their learning environment; and

 

WHEREAS, Nitya has painted murals in the Lifelong East Bay Recovery Project for the unhoused women’s shelter. During the pandemic, Nitya wrote cards to people that had lost their housing to let them know someone cared about them and bring them comfort during that difficult time; and    

 

WHEREAS, Nitya regularly makes meals to serve in shelters for the unhoused; and

 

WHEREAS, Nitya makes blankets to donate to the animal shelter; and    

 

WHEREAS, Nitya created a website that discusses ways the community can help protect animals and reduce our pollution impacts on the animals and plans to start a club that will support students’ talents while helping animals in our community; and       

 

WHEREAS, Nitya also has a gift of playing the piano and volunteers regularly to play for seniors in senior living facilities. Nitya has a clear passion for serving her community.  

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors recognizes Nitya Varanasi as the 2024 Youth Hall of Fame Awardee for Good Samaritan, and for exemplifying the values of service, integrity, kindness, activism, and leadership that César Chávez embodied through his life.
