RECOMMENDATIONS:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 26284 to cancel one (1) vacant permanent intermittent Library Assistant-Journey Level (3KVB) (represented) position # 6107; and add one (1) permanent part-time (20/40) Library Assistant-Journey Level (3KVB) (represented) position at the Orinda Library branch in the Library Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval, this action will result in annual savings to the Library Fund of approximately $20,452. No fiscal impact to the County general fund.
BACKGROUND:
On March 8, 2024, the incumbent of a permanent-intermittent Library Assistant-Journey Level position retired. As part of the Library’s ongoing evaluation of its allocation of resources, the Library determined that a half-time Library Assistant-Journey Level position at the Orinda Library would better serve the needs of the Library system.
The Orinda branch has been having high circulation and patron attendance. The addition of a half-time Library Assistant-Journey Level position will help continue the branch’s efficient service model by allowing the allocation of more staff to programming or other branch resources.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this position change is not approved, the Orinda branch may have difficulties providing services to the public.
