RECOMMENDATIONS:

 

REAPPOINT Antionette Warren to the District 5 seat on the Merit Board, for a term ending on June 30, 2029, as recommended by Supervisor Shanelle Scales-Preston.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

None.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The purpose of the Merit Board is to hear and make determinations on appeals of employees and oversee the merit system to ensure that merit principles are upheld. The Merit Board shall consist of five (5) (or seven [7] if authorized by legislation) qualified electors of the County of Contra Costa who are neither County or District employees nor employees of any organization representing County or District employees. Merit Board members shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The term of Merit Board members shall be four (4) years except for the initial appointments. Each calendar year the Merit Board shall select a chairperson from its members to serve a one (1) year term.

 

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

 

The suggested appointee will not be able to serve on the Merit Board, which could impact the body’s ability to achieve quorum and conduct business.
