Report Title:                     Budget Amendment for Byron Wildland Fire Center

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE Budget Amendment No. BDA-24-00760 appropriating fund balance of $1,800,000 for the purchase of the property from the Probation Department for use as a Wildland Fire Center

FISCAL IMPACT:

The $1.8 million purchase price will be fully funded by the CCCFPD General Operating Fund balance. Budget Amendment BDA-24-00760 will appropriate fund balance from the CCCFPD General Operating Fund for transfer to a Probation Department capital projects account. As approved by the Board (Item 23-909) at its November 28, 2023, meeting, the Probation Department will use this funding, in conjunction with other funds, for the future demolition of the Old Juvenile Hall building.

BACKGROUND:

At its January 16, 2024, meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved Budget Amendment No. BDA-24-00760 for the purpose of appropriating fund balance for the purchase of County property at 4491 Bixler Road in Byron for use as a Wildland Fire Center. The intent was to transfer the funds to the Probation Department, but that was not completed in that fiscal year. This budget amendment will appropriate funds in the current year so the transaction can be completed.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Fire District will be unable to pay the Probation Department for the purchase of the property.
