Report Title:                     Service Agreement with Metro Elevator

Recommendation of the County Administrator Recommendation of Board Committee

RECOMMENDATIONS:

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief, or designee, to execute a Service Agreement with Metro Elevator, in an amount not to exceed $30,000, for preventative maintenance and repairs of the elevator at Fire Station 70 for the period of May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2029.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Budgeted; 100% CCCFPD General Operating Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Fire Station 70 located at 1800 23rd Street, San Pablo was constructed in 2021 as a two-story station that included a passenger elevator to meet California Building Code requirements. In order to maintain the elevator in good operational condition, and meet state elevator permit requirements, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (District) must enter into a maintenance contract with an elevator service company.

The maintenance contract also reduces repair costs for the District as quarterly preventive maintenance will reduce the number and length of times the elevator will be inoperable, reduce urgent maintenance requests and extend the lifespan of the elevator.

The District solicited quotes from three companies to provide this service, and Metro Elevator provided the lowest quote. This agreement includes a provision for mutual indemnification between Metro Elevator and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without this agreement, the District will not be able maintain and operate the elevator at Fire Station 70 and will not be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and the California Building Code.
