Report Title: Approve and Authorize application for a grant in the amount of $18,900 from Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund for the Pittsburg Library

RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $18,900 from Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund for the Pittsburg Library to provide decodable books and ten scholarships to the Hoot Literacy online reading tutoring program for the period August 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The Keller Canyon Landfill Mitigation Fund process was established in August 1992, and funds are used to mitigate effects of the landfill site by funding community-based organizations and County Departments for programs in the following areas: youth services, code enforcement, community beautification, public safety, and community services.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this proposal is not approved, the Pittsburg Library will not be able to complete this project until other funding is found.
CHILDREN’S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Pittsburg Library champions personal and community engagement in literacy and reading to enrich lives. The Library’s project of bridging literacy gaps through decodable books and scholarships to Hoot online reading tutoring supports the community outcome of Children Ready for and Succeeding in School.
