RECOMMENDATIONS:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 26373 to add one (1) Information Systems Technician I (LTWB) (represented) position at salary plan and grade TB5 1408 ($6,323-$7,686) and cancel one (1) vacant Network Analyst I (LBVA) (represented) position #20474 at salary plan and grade ZB5 1005 ($8,987- $10,924) in the Public Works Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action will result in a cost savings and the position will be funded by various Road and Special District funds.
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Information Technology (IT) Division operates independent of the Department of Information Technology, including managing their own network, systems, and equipment. In reviewing roles, responsibilities and long-term needs for the IT Division and the Department, it was concluded that an Information Systems Technician I is more appropriate to support the increased demand for Helpdesk support. In the past year, Public Works has added approximately 200 new users (due to turnover and expansion of user base) and deployed approximately 250 new end-point devices (laptops, cell phones, and desktops) while supporting new applications, including Office 365. The hands-on requirements for configuring and deploying devices and supporting the ever-changing and expanded user base results in the need for an additional Information Systems Technician I. The Department has additional Information Systems Technicians, and the position aligns more effectively with the structure of the IT Division's Network Team.
