RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPOINT Mayra Lopez to the Public Health Division Seat to complete the current term expiring December 31, 2026 and to the new term ending on December 31, 2029 on the Los Medanos Health Advisory Committee (LMHAC), as recommended by the Health Services Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact for this action.

BACKGROUND:
The committee consists of seven (7) seats. The initial term of office is 2 years, followed by a 3-year term. The County Board of Supervisors will make the appointment. Residents and those who work in the health area's territory, primarily the Pittsburg/Bay Point area, are welcome to apply. This is a volunteer appointment - no stipends or reimbursements are authorized for this Committee.

The LMHAC is composed of seven seats nominated to the Board of Supervisors by the following: (2) from the Pittsburg City Council, (2) from the Bay Point Municipal Advisory Council (MAC), (2) from the Health Services Department (one from Public Health and one from Behavioral Health), and (1) from the Internal Operations Committee of the Board of Supervisors.

On August 25, 2026, the Clerk of the Board posted the vacancy for the Public Health Division Seat. Mayra Lopez was nominated by the Health Services Department for the Public Health seat, with a term ending on December 31, 2029.

Mayra Lopez serves as the Tobacco Prevention Program Manager for the Public Health Division and holds a Master of Public Health from the University of San Francisco. In her role, Mayra prioritizes policy implementation, education, and enforcement efforts aimed at reducing the health impacts of tobacco, cannabis, and vaping.
