RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Animal Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with SAGE Veterinary Partners, LLC, to increase the payment limit by $60,000 to a new payment limit of $560,000, for the provision of additional emergency veterinary services, with no change to the existing term expiring June 30, 2026.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this Contract Amendment will result in additional expenditures of up to $60,000 for FY 2025-2026. This amendment is necessary to cover the final May-June 2026 invoices, which exceeded the existing contract payment limit by approximately $57,000. 58% City Contracts, 9% User Fees, and 33% County General Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Animal Services Department has contracted with SAGE Veterinary Partners, LLC since 2017 and currently holds an agreement for the period of July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. With Board approval on June 24, 2025, this contract was extended without an increase to contract limits through June 30, 2026, to ensure continued access to 24-hour emergency veterinary services for sick, injured, stray, abandoned, or neglected animals.
The contractor provided services through the end of the contract term on June 30, 2026. The May-June 2026 invoices exceeded the contract payment limit for estimated services by approximately $57,000. This amendment increases the payment limit by $60,000 to ensure full payment for services rendered during the contract term.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to approve this amendment will result in SAGE Veterinary Partners, LLC not being compensated for emergency veterinary services requested by County staff and provided in good faith during the months of May and June 2026. The C...
