RECOMMENDATIONS:
ADOPT a resolution approving a settlement to Grievance No. 022-24, in the amount of $213,326.02
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total cost of the grievance settlement is $213,326.02 and will be paid by operating funds of the Public Defender.
BACKGROUND:
On April 17, 2024, the Defenders’ Association filed a grievance regarding the application and enforceability of Section 5.14 (Discretionary Steps) of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Union and County. On June 10, 2025, the parties reached a settlement to pay specified amounts to identified employees in the Defenders’ Association, totaling $213,326.02.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The settlement agreement will not be approved and the grievance will not be settled.
