RECOMMENDATIONS:
APPROVE Budget Amendment No. BDA-26-00582 authorizing the transfer of appropriations in the amount of $156,042 from Library (0620) to Public Works - Fleet Operations (0063) for the purchase of two Ford Cutaway box trucks for the Shipping Unit.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Library Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Library is requesting Budget Amendment No. BDA-26-00582 to purchase 2 box trucks for the Library’s Shipping Unit to replace one box truck from- and add one box truck to Library’s fleet. These box trucks deliver materials from library branch to other library branches and to Library Administration. One replacement is due to high mileage and continued truck mechanical issues (vehicle number 5759). The other truck is an additional truck to be used intermittently for a fourth route, for additional deliveries rather than wait for a returning truck, for larger deliveries such as library furniture, and to replace a routing truck that has mechanical issues mid route, negating the need to obtain a rental truck.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If not approved, the Contra Costa County Library Shipping Staff will continue driving one aged vehicle and the Library will continue to incur high rental truck fees.
