RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the Public Works Director, or designee, a purchase order with Curvature LLC in an amount not to exceed $7,000 for the procurement of Network Hardware to be utilized for increase of network bandwidth.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Costs will be recovered through various Public Works funds including Roads, Flood Control and Special Districts funds
BACKGROUND:
Curvature is a Cisco Authorized network equipment reseller.
Public Works has been operating its local area network (LAN) on outdated equipment for approximately 15 years, significantly impacting on our ability to manage and facilitate network traffic.
This equipment will support the Public Works Department’s staff in providing services to the community, it is necessary that our network and related equipment are in good working order and supported by the manufacturer. The hardware acquired will be replacing the outdated equipment to allow for the higher bandwidth requirements of modern cloud technologies.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Network Hardware procurement is not approved, the Public Works Department’s operations and services to the community will be impacted due to limited bandwidth and decreased data security from outdated equipment no longer receiving necessary security updates.
